Approximately fifty vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.

Vehicles, exterior walls and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with swastikas, they announced in a release.

Law enforcement report they were notified late on Wednesday night, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.

The fluid had been placed in the shape of a swastika, they added.

Police then discovered multiple other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of Nazi-era symbols.

Law enforcement report initial examinations show the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.

"There is still no lead as to its source; authorities are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in association with the occurrence," they added.

Municipal representatives stated they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have requested to the public for details.

An important official said the vandalism made him stunned and required to be addressed quickly.

"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on a platform, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on people of migrant background in 2020.
