Wimbledon will follow the US and Australian Opens in employing replay systems.
Video review technology will make its debut at Wimbledon in the upcoming tournament.
Athletes will gain the ability to question particular calls made by the official, mirroring the protocol already in operation at each of the US Open and the Australian Open.
The new system will be accessible on Centre Court and Court One throughout the Championships and on the remaining show courts when they are hosting singles contests.
This step follows just a year after the AELTC rolled out ELC, which brought an end to the longstanding tradition of line officials.
What Can Be Reviewed?
Players cannot to challenge the accuracy of the ELC system, but they can ask for the umpire to re-examine specific decisions, such as:
- If a ball has bounced twice.
- Whether a ball touched an opponent's racquet or body during play.
- Possible interference at the conclusion of a point.
Notably, there will be an unlimited number on the number of reviews a competitor can ask for.
Case in Point
A recent incident occurred in a recent tournament last week, where Daniil Medvedev used the review system against his opponent.
Draper admitted it was a difficult situation for the umpire, but thought his rival had "played the rules quite well."
The umpire viewed a replay and ruled the player was guilty of interference, awarding the point to Medvedev.
Wider Implementation
This technology are not exclusive to Grand Slams. The system has been in use at the American major since 2023 and the Australian Open since 2025.
Furthermore, it is becoming more common on the women’s WTA Tour, and by next season the ATP circuit will have video reviews implemented at all of its events.
Further Updates
Another innovation at Wimbledon 2025 involves the introduction of visual indicators on displays to support the audio calls from the ELC system.
This solves instances where fans have occasionally been unsure whether a ball was out or in.
Finally, with precisely 100 days to go until the start of the Championships, organizers have further announced an expansion in daily attendance at the qualifiers in Roehampton.
